suzuki-q-conceptWhat on earth is this? Most people say when they see it. It looks ridiculous!

It may look ridiculous at first sight, but closer examination reveals a completely new concept. The tiny urban method of transport (I nearly said car) reveals fascinating capabilities and offers many technically advanced features. The tiny electric two seater seems to sit in a gap between a car and a scooter.

Suzuki showed the Q-Concept to the world at the Tokyo Motor show at then end of November / early December last year. The Company issued the following Press Release:

.The Q-concept is an entirely new kind of mobility, one that's positioned between conventional motorcycles and cars. With a 2.5-metre overall length and two seats in tandem configuration, its ideal for everyday journeys less than 10km.

The Q-concept is more practical than a car as it's more manoeuvrable and takes up much less parking space. At the same time, a cabin makes it a more attractive, more comfortable option than a motorcycle. It's handy for shopping, commuting, transporting children and all the other short journeys in everyday life.

04-suzuki-q-cenceptOther Q-concept configurations are possible. For instance, the Q-concept can have a single seat for a parent at the front and a two-person child seat at the rear, or it can be configured as a delivery vehicle with a single seat at the front and a cargo area at the rear. So it offers new possibilities for people who live in towns where businesses, schools, hospitals and other essential facilities are all in relatively compact areas.

The Q Concept, for which Suzuki has no production plans, has a very short EV range making it suitable for very short journey only. It features a 66 cc three cylinder engine acting as a range extending generator.

The exterior makes it look like an expensive toy, although we don’t know the price Suzuki would have in mind; it looks expensive to us.

The interior is unconventional to say the least. Two circular doors swivel upwards to provide easy 06-suzuki-q-cenceptaccess. It addition, the driver’s seat rotates to make access even easier. For the rear seat passenger(s) a panel containing the rear window slides upwards for easy access.

We can see the Q-Concept as transport in neighbourhoods, to schools, shops where parking is easy due to its size and manoeuvrability.
