Nissan has been working on Zero Emission Technology (ZET) since at least 2005. None of the concepts previously presented reached the production stage. The Pivo 3 however should be a more realistic platform. There is the ZET Leaf of course, but Nissan hopes that the new concept is a more practical answer for city commuters. The 3-seater Nissan Pivo 3 EV drawn the industry’s attention to new features such as the car’s self park ability, its All Wheel steering feature and the In Wheel Electric motors design. There are plans for a compact Sports EV.

Nissan Pivo 3 EV Standard Features

• AVP (Automated Valet Parking system) - AVP requires specially equipped parking spaces where the Pivo 3 can interact with its surroundings. It locates an empty space and parks itself safely without driver involvement. It even remembers the location. Whilst parked, the vehicle recharges and can sell power to the grid. Using a Smartphone, the driver can retrieve his car by calling it back to a specific location.
• RAI (Robotic Agent Interface) - RAI can hook up with the internet to tell the driver things of interest in the area, having recognised who the driver is.
• AWD with IWEM (All Wheel Drive with In-Wheel Electric Motors) The power train has not yet been revealed in detail. However, it will be an all wheel drive vehicle, with an electric motor mounted in each of the four wheels.
• AWS (All Wheel Steering) - AWS helps to achieve a dramatically improved manoeuvrability. The turning circle will be 4 metres only.
• McLaren F1 driving position - This is a central position improving the driver’s visibility. The driver is flanked by a passenger seat each side and slightly set back.
