Supercars (1) Isdera Commendatory 112i

Over the next ten weeks we will introduce ten Supercars, which you might or might not have heard of. They are expensive, packed with the then latest features and are very limited in numbers. Many of us dream of driving or even owning a supercar. So, why not dream along with us? Here is the first one:

Isdera Commendatore 112i

The Isdera Commendatore 112i is the brainchild of Eberhard Schulz who, as an ex Porsche designer, started Isdera in the late 1960s with his two sons. The Commendatore was completed as a pre-production model with a limited production models to follow each costing around $450,000. Before production could commence, Isdera went out of business leaving the pre-production model as the only Isdera Commendatore 112i.

To develop the Commendatore, Schulz spent almost DM5millions, which went into advanced systems such an active rear airbrake designed to deploy under braking and an automatically adjustable ride height. The car was based around largest Mercedes V12 available at the time and it was supported by a complex tubular space frame.

The only remaining prototype has been driven for 3,000 miles.
