Usually one of the first casualties of a slower economy is the automotive market and there has been no exception with new UK car registrations down by 23 per cent in October; a trend thats been followed throughout Western Europe and the United States.
The blame for empty showrooms has clearly been put on the credit crunch and a collapse in consumer confidence with follow-on effects being felt across the supply chain with shorter working hours and temporary cutbacks being reported. Dealer groups are pushing for a cut in interest rates to stimulate new demand.

In a bid to increase its profile in Europe, Hyundai has revealed details of its new awe-inspiring diesel engine. The all aluminium ‘The R-Engine’ as its to be known has an array of advanced features such as variable-geometry turbocharger with an advanced management system and a Bosch developed 1800 bar piezo-electric common rail. The engine is fitted with a close-coupled diesel particulate filter and exhaust gas recirculation with by-pass valve to be Euro-5 emission compliant.
Hyundai claim The R-engine will out perform all major European manufactures and will be available in two versions a 2.0l 184hp and 2.2l 200hp. Watch this space.
