Introducing the new 187mph Audi R8

The new Audi R8, a cracking car showing Audis ‘Lambo’ connections! The new R8 is on sale around the 80K mark, but with all the extras you could easily add on another 10k, still not bad for performance and ‘head-tuning’ factor.

The 4.2 litre V8 engine delivers 0-60mph acceleration time in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of a whopping 187mph. Its 414bhp is transformed through the Quattro permanent four- wheel drive system and its potent design puts it firmly in the running with the likes of the Porsche 911, the BMW M6 and the Aston Martin Vantage. So far so good for those in the know, but if you want one be prepared for a wait and demand could be further stretched with the introduction of a V10 version in 2009.

Hailing the new Ford Mondeo!

The new Ford Mondeo was unveiled at the Paris motor show in 2006. Ford hoping that the improved quality and drivability were enough to steal sales away from the 3 series BMW market- aside the BMW badge of course!

The first obvious difference is the spacious interior more reminiscent of the classic and equally successful Granada than a Mondeo. The build quality has come on leaps and bounds rivalling many of the premium mid-range executives. There’s no ‘flimsy bits’ on the dash, no free travel in doors, seats and instruments and there’s enough ‘hi-tech’ options to keep even the most techno driver satisfied. The innovative IVDC (Interactive Vehicle Dynamics Control) system alters the ride settings depending on conditions and quite frankly your mood. Early indications point to a winner for Ford. Pro’s value for money quality, cons extensive options can rack up the price.

The new Peugeot 308 HDi

The new Peugeot 308 was presented at the Frankfurt Motor show in August, the new 308 Hybrid HDi follows Toyota hybrid offering the Prius. Peugeots parallel hybrid engine consists of a 1.6 litre HDi 110 bhp diesel engine coupled with an electric motor delivering a 59 lb ft of torque and a continuous 22 bhp power output.

The electrically derived power is engaged during the starting cycle and is used for driving at lower speeds, whilst the diesel is engaged ‘on demand’ for motorway and where a more responsive power pack is required. The whole process is monitored by the (PTMU) the Power Train Management Unit which selects the most appropriate drive to engage given the driving requirements and fuel consumption. This gives rise to a tax busting 90g/km of CO2 emission and reduces fuel consumption by 58% in the urban cycle compared to a standard HDi.
